Throughout the history of man, man has developed many different tools for navigating the earth. Examples are the compass, astrolabe, sextant and maps.
These instruments have not only helped people navigate to a particular destination, they can be used to help you if you become lost, they will help you find the right path to where you need to be.
Did you know that the Creator supplied all humanity with its own navigational system? A system that will assist you in navigating life.
The sad fact is that the majority of humanity has never tapped in to the fullness of this Divine navigational system. Over time this system has been forgotten and neglected. Our parents and society themselves never received all the proper tools to pass on to us. Thus we have been handed at best, part of the system, but for the system to work properly, we need all the parts.
When looking at the shape of our world, we can see the evidence of a world navigating with a system that is missing parts. We need the navigational system to be complete and in correct working order if we are to successfully find Navigate Earth.
To locate our navigational system for navigating life on earth and to find the missing parts not handed down to us, we need to journey back to where the revelation of this system began, the book of Genesis.
The book of Genesis is where we will find the Creator assembling the navigational system we will need to navigate our life on earth.
Many are taught from a child to read Genesis as a story. When this is done the messages of book is overlooked.
In this first part we will begin to discover the parts of this navigational system and how to find them. By we reach the end of this blog series, my hope is that you will see the finished product, the Divine Navigational System for navigating earth.
Proverbs 2:1-5 inspires us to be a detective and treasure hunter.
“My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you,
So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”
My wife and I love watching detective shows, especially those on Acorn TV. We have learned that one of the detective tools used in helping them solve a crime is to find out where the crime began, what lead up to the crime being done. Finding out who all the players are, so to speak.
So, let us put on our Sherlock Holmes hats and grab our magnifying glass and do some detecting, and treasure hunting.
Back to the beginning:
“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;”
According to the Sages and Torah Scholars of Israel this passage is full of information – it is like a vitamin packed full of life giving nutrients.
The first three Hebrew words of this passage is like a treasure chest full of priceless jewels.
The first Hebrew word is ‘tzav’, it is a root word for the word ‘mitzvah’ that we will explain in more detail in part 2.
According to a Jewish friend of mine whose first language is Hebrew, he explained to me that ‘tzav’ in this passage is a verb.
Tzav is translated in to English in this passage as ‘Command’, now lets look at this word from the stand point of a verb.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary – Command in verb tense, “transitive verb. 1 : to direct authoritatively : order commanded adherence to the rules. 2 : to exercise a dominating influence over : have command of.”
A transitive verb has two characteristics. First, it is an action verb, expressing a doable activity like kick, want, paint, write, eat, clean, etc. Second, it must have a direct object, something or someone who receives the action of the verb. (chompchopm.com – Grammar Bytes)
The first part of Genesis 2:16 begins to unlock important information for us.
And the LORD God commanded the man
- There is an authority figure giving the command, the Creator – more to come on this point in the next part
- And there is someone who is receiving the authoritative command, order, or instruction i.e. man.
In this first part what we have began to uncover that there is a navigational system. This system is found within the conversation the Creator has with man in the form of commands/instructions.
There is so much more to discover in this verse. We are now on our way to unlocking the navigational system that will help us in navigating earth.
